Charlie - Focus Extension

"Everpresent" here means tools and habits that keep focus and intention present—instead of the app or the feed driving your attention. In 2025–2026 that often takes the form of focus extensions, blockers, and environment design.

Browser and device

  • Focus extensions that limit or block chosen sites (e.g. StayFocusd, LeechBlock, or built-in "Digital Wellbeing" / Screen Time). The idea: make distraction a frictionful choice, not the default.
  • Separate profiles or browsers for work vs. consumption. One browser for deep work (no social, no news); another for the rest. Context switching becomes visible.

Environment

  • Full-screen or minimal UI when writing or coding. Hide bookmarks, tabs, and notifications so the current task is the only thing on screen.
  • Sound and notifications. Mute or batch notifications. Use Do Not Disturb or focus modes so "presence" is your choice, not the device’s.

Ritual

  • Start and end cues. A short routine (e.g. close all tabs, open one doc) signals "focus mode." Another (e.g. review tomorrow’s list) signals "done." The everpresent thing is the ritual, not the feed.

The "Charlie" in the title was a concrete focus or productivity tool in an earlier version of this note; the lasting idea is designing your environment so focus is the default and distraction is the exception. Update the tools to whatever works for you now—the principle stays.
